Bhangra isn’t just a dance; its origins are a celebration of the harvest complete with dancing, drumming and singing. Today, Bhangra has become popular worldwide, both in traditional form and as a fusion with dance styles such as hip-hop and belly dance.

In a two-hour workshop, learn the history and basics of this fun upbeat dance from the Punjab region of Southeast Asia.

When: Sunday, March 30th 10-Noon
Where: The West End Dance and Yoga Studio, 155 Brackett Street, Portland, Maine

Save by registering early:
Before 3/25:
NBDA Members: $10.00 and nonmembers: $20.00
After 3/25:
NBDA Members: $15.00 and nonmembers: $25.00

For nonmembers, the price includes one year annual dues to NBDA Maine!

You can register by sending a check or money order (made out to NBDA Maine) to:
NBDA Maine, c/o Sybil Wilen, 244 Spring Street, Portland Maine 04102.

You can also pay through paypal. My e-mail for that is cumaensybil@yahoo.com. Make sure you put Bhangra workshop in the comment section.

And if you forget about it until the 30th, don't sweat it, pay at the door.

And if you have children and no childcare, bring them along. Bhangra is fun for all ages and kids 4-12 are half priced (younger kids might have trouble keeping it together for the duration, but if you think yours will, by all means bring them).

Take the whole afternoon to celebrate! We’ll have a gathering at my home after the workshop. Refreshments will be provided. Let me know if you plan on attending so that I have a head count for food.

Celebrate Spring!

And don’t forget UNE’s 2nd Annual International Festival:
